The Trap - Kimberley Chambers

Image
If you enjoy gritty crime novels, this is a book you definitely don’t want to miss out on, I was gripped from the very first chapter until the very end. I really didn’t want this book to end. It is the first in the ‘Butler’ series by Kimberley Chambers. The Bulters are definitely the kings of the East End there’s no doubt about it and Queenie, her sister Viv and her sons are not going to let you forget it! This follow the Butler family over a period of 10 years and you get to know the ins and outs of their family and what the name Butler really means! I don’t want to go too much into this book as it will completely spoil it but it is definitely a MUST READ! I didn’t even want to pick up another book, I went straight for book 2 in this series! GRIPPING. GRITTY. HUMOROUS.UNPUTDOWNABLE.  Probably the BEST book I have read this year!

The Donor - Clare Macintosh

Image
I love quick reads and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single book that Clare has written so far, with it being a quick read it’s only around 100 pages long but in that 100 pages is a superb psychological thriller with many twists, it even had me shouting at this book at one point. Meg has just had a heart transplant and going against all the advice of not getting involved with the donors family Megs mother Lizzie just can’t help it, she needs to thank the family who helped saved her daughter so when she recieves a letter from Karen she is over the moon...is Karen everything she seems to be? Is Lizzie in the wrong? Who will Meg side with? A twisty psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat, a perfect afternoon read.

The Prison Doctor: Women Inside - Dr Amanda Brown

I can’t remember the last time I was able to sit and read a whole book in an afternoon/evening but yesterday I did, I couldn’t put it down! When I tried to put it down was thinking about it so had to pick it up again...this book certainly did not disappoint me, Dr Amanda Brown is a GP at Bronzefield Prison, the largest womens only Prison in Europe. This book is such an eye-opener, it gives us a real insight into how some people end up where they today, it is also a raw and emotional account of some of the women’s lives and everything they have had to endure throughout their lives. I definitely shed a tear or two whilst reading this book. I really do hope that Amanda continues to write about her experiences as a GP in Bronzefield. I highly recommend this book. If this is the first book you have read by Dr Amanda Brown you must also check out her first book ‘The Prison Doctor’.

The Plus One Pact - Portia Macintosh

Image
This is the first book I have read by Portia Macintosh and it certainly won't be the last, I just couldn't put it down and to be honest i didn't want too, it felt like I was actually part of Cara and Millsys life....Cara has just split up with her controlling boyfriend Lloyd she doesnt want a long distance relationship and this is the perfect opportunity to break up however her cousin Floras wedding is around the corner and she doesn't want to upset her even more after saying no to being a bridesmaid by turning up to her wedding without a date, so she signs up to a dating app that goes horrifically, until one night when shes stood up and meets Millsy who is soon to become her plus one, he also needs a plus one to his best friends wedding, so they come up with the plus one pact and have so much fun and causing havoc along the way!! I really enjoyed this light hearted laugh out loud read. I definitely need to dive in to more of Portias books.

Some Kind Of Wonderful - Giovanna Fletcher

Image
Oh well where do I start I couldn’t put this book down and don’t want to put its down! It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that has made me want to stop doing everything else and just read it. This is the first book by Giovanna Fletcher that I have read and it certainly will not be the last. All Lizzy had ever wanted was too marry Ian, they have been together for 10 years and only seems right that any moment now he is going to propose...they’ve had many New Years together, many christmases, birthdays, plenty of opportunities to propose, she knows he’s about to propose any minute because he’s already as her dads permission years ago! It’s the last night on their holiday and Ian has set up a romantic dinner, champagne on ice, on a beach what could be a more romantic setting for a proposal...the proposal doesn’t turn out exactly how Lizzy thought it would Infact her life couldnt have taken a worse turn! This is a must read book.

The Skin Gods - Richard Montinari

The Skin Gods is book 2 in The Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano series.  On the streets of a blazing hot summer in Philadelphia, Byrne and Balzano are put to the test when a series on unrelated crimes start to happen among them, gruesome homicides that are all a bit of a puzzle until they start to piece them together...Will Byrnes own investigations get him into a bit of bother? What will Jessica uncover as she goes undercover in the gritty underworld of Philadelphia’s most darkests places, places where evil is just lurking. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down at all, the twists I didn’t see coming which were a brilliant surprise! An extremely well written book that will keep you guessing throughout, you will be hooked from start to finish. I can’t recommend this book enough, if you would like to start from the start book 1 is called THE ROSARY GIRLS. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Chris Carter and Tania Carver.
