Cruel To Be Kind - Cathy Glass

Six Year Old Max has been voluntary placed into care by his mother Caz, she is currently in hospital after having toes amputated as a result of her Diabetes, Maxs main reason for being placed into care was that he was left on his own whilst Caz was in hospital. Cathy and Caz don’t have the greatest of starts and Caz even phones Cathy and threatens her before Cathy has even had Max put into her care!

Cathy hasn’t had the full update of Max’s background yet and is quiet shocked when he arrives, he is quiet a bit over weight and his family including his social worker are in denial that there is a problem, You can’t  even bring the subject up with Caz. Max knows he has a problem with his weight, he can’t join in simple activities at school such as playing football because of this. It isn’t until he has his check up with the pedatrician that things start to change. Max is a lovely child, he reminds me a lot of Matilda, he loves reading, whilst he was at home he stayed in his bedroom reading, his teacher even lets him take out extra books over the weekend! When Caz is finally home from hospital the real truth about their family life comes out....

This is a must read for all Cathy Glass fans, I read this one is just a couple of sittings, every book I read that Cathy has written I feel as if I was there, your heart really goes out to these children. I also love seeing the difference that Cathy has made to these children’s lives by simply just caring enough to help.
